Finishing 2019 at the top of the ICC World Test Championship with 360 points, India have once again solidified their stand as the team to beat in the longest format of the game. Clean sweeps against South Africa and Bangladesh at home and against West Indies in their own backyard meant that India's total of 360 was more than the cumulative total of all the other eight teams (292 points).

A fragile top order and a shaky middle order were the two areas of concern for the Indian team coming into this year. However, the combined efforts of all the batsmen helped the team strengthen their hold at the top of the points table.

On that note, here are the five batsmen who performed the best for India in Test Cricket in 2019.

#5 Rohit Sharma

Long regarded as a white-ball specialist, Rohit Sharma's promotion to the opener's slot resurrected his career in the longer format - just like it did in limited overs cricket. Brought into the squad for the vital home series against South Africa, Rohit wasted no time in making an immediate impact at the top of the order.

His twin innings of 176 and 127 in the opening Test were reminiscent of his centuries during his debut series against West Indies. Continuing his purple patch, Rohit notched up his first double century in the third Test when he scored 212 runs in India's only innings of the match and finished the three-match series with a mammoth total of 529 runs.

While his performances in the subsequent series against Bangladesh did not have the same impact, he will be looking to carry his form to the next year when India visit New Zealand for their next Test series.
