Top 5 oldest players in IPL 2025 auction list ft. Faf du Plessis
The IPL governing council has announced the list of 574 players going under the hammer in the mega auction. The event will take place on November 24-25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Out of 574 players, 366 Indian and 208 overseas players will vie for a total of 204 spots available, with 70 reserved for foreigners. Interestingly, 81 players will enter into the IPL 2025 auction with the highest price bracket of INR 2 crore.
Some veteran players have also put their names on the list after being released from their respective franchises. Meanwhile, few are trying to make a return to the cash-rich league after a hiatus.
On that note, let's take a look at the top five oldest players in the IPL 2025 auction.
#5 Ravichandran Ashwin - 38 years and 59 days
The clever off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will make his way into the auction after getting released from Rajasthan Royals. He joined the Royals ahead of the 2022 season and scalped 35 wickets until the 2024 edition.
In 212 IPL games, he has bagged 180 wickets at an economy of 7.12, while representing four different franchises. Although his record doesn't sound exciting, Ashwin has impressed with his ability to cut down the runs in the middle-overs with his variations. He has enlisted himself at a price of INR 2 crore.
#4 Sikandar Raza - 38 years and 205 days
Sikandar Raza comes into this auction with a base price of INR 1.25 crore. The Zimbabwe all-rounder and skipper has garnered 5,315 runs and picked up 157 wickets in 258 T20s.
Raza represented the Punjab Kings in the last two editions of the cash-rich league. In nine games, he scored 182 runs and secured three wickets. His best knock of 57 came in a winning cause against Lucknow Super Giants in the 2023 edition.
#3 Mohammad Nabi - 39 years and 319 days
The Afghanistan all-rounder is a seasoned performer in the shortest format, but he hasn't quite reciprocated the same form in the IPL. He has been inconsistent with his contribution with the bat and failed to pick up enough wickets. Due to this reason, he has made only 24 appearances in the tournament.
In IPL 2024, Nabi represented Mumbai Indians, scoring 35 runs and picking up two wickets in seven games. However, he holds a commendable T20 record, scoring around 6,000 runs and picking up 360 wickets.
#2 Faf du Plessis - 40 years and 125 days
The top-order batter, Faf du Plessis ranks among the finest overseas players to play in the IPL. He has amassed 4,571 runs in 145 games, with 37 fifties in the tournament.
Importantly, Du Plessis led Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the last three seasons, with the side sealing the playoff spot on two occasions. In IPL 2024, he scored 438 runs at a strike rate of 161.62, with four fifties.
Du Plessis recently captained the Saint Lucia Kings to a title victory in the CPL 2024 season, while also scoring 400+ runs. It will be interesting to see if he generates interest from the franchise, given the uncertainty about him being a long-term prospect.
#1 James Anderson - 42 years and 108 days
The greatest test pacer to grace the cricket field, James Anderson has expressed interest in taking part in the IPL for the first time in his career. This comes after his test retirement earlier this year. Anderson finished his red-ball career with 704 wickets in 188 games.
The right-arm pacer last appeared in a T20 game back in 2014. He has taken a total of 41 wickets in 44 T20s, with best figures of 3/23. The 42-year-old said that he wants to grow his knowledge of T20 format by participating in the IPL. However, it seems unlikely that he will find a suitor in the auction.
