Trent Woodhill and Mitchell Starc discuss George Bailey's batting technique
George Bailey is the second highest run-getter for Australia after the completion of the first two ODIs. He has been in immense form for the home side as he has dominated the Indian bowlers in the ODIs at the WACA and at the Gabba.
Bailey has scored 188 runs in two matches of the ODI series so far and seems set to continue batting well and carry on his good form throughout the series. His batting average of 188 is second only to Rohit Sharma, whose batting average in the series is 295.
Although it has been an impressive performance from the former Australian captain, what would have got the attention of many cricket followers is the new batting stance that Bailey has adopted. It seems like a very unnatural stance, with Bailey's left leg way in front of his right leg, which is usually the exact opposite to how a right-handed batsman stands.
Australian Trent Woodhill, who is a batting and fielding coach, took to Twitter to make his feelings known about the technique employed by Bailey while batting. Woodhill is currently working as the batting and fielding coach in the Big Bash League (BBL) with the Melbourne Stars. The Australian is also the batting and fielding coach at Indian Premier League (IPL) side, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Woodhill expressed his opinion about Bailey's chance to become a great player once the batsman sorts his technique out. However, not many people took kindly to Woodhill's remark and one of those who responded to him was Australian speedster, Mitchell Starc.
Starc, who is part of the RCB team, where Woodhill also works, mentioned about the number of runs Bailey has scored so far in the two ODIs and defended the 33-year-old from Tasmania.
However, Australian opener, David Warner who was absent for the second ODI against India, topped up the argument with a comment stating that both Woodhill and Starc were on the same team and should put an end to their disagreement over Bailey's technique.
Woodhill is attributed with helping Warner shape his cricketing career; also, Nic Maddinson has also received help from the Australian coach.
