Twitter furious as RCB fall prey to umpiring howler against Mumbai
After a disappointing game against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL opener, Royal Challengers Bangalore locked horns with Mumbai Indians at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to field first. Mumbai Indians got off to a good start as Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma racked up 54 runs in just 6.3 overs. Suryakumar Yadav came in and played his shots.
Though Mumbai lost track in the middle overs, Hardik Pandya carried them to 187 runs in 20 overs. In reply, Kohli demoted himself to No.3 and allowed Moeen to open the batting with Parthiv.
Ali went early and Parthiv followed him when the score was 67. Kohli and AB de Villiers forged a good partnership and took the score past 100. Bumrah dismissed Kohli with a bouncer and de Villiers was left to wage a lone battle as Hetmyer and de Grandhomme were dismissed in quick succession.
With 40 required from three overs, de Villiers took Hardik Pandya for 18 runs in the 18th over. However, Bumrah bowled a brilliant 19th over, which brought Mumbai back into the game. RCB needed 17 runs off the last over and Malinga had the ball in his hands.
Though Dube hit him for a six off the very first ball of the over, the veteran held his nerve and conceded only singles in the next four deliveries. RCB needed a six off the last ball to tie the game. Malinga bowled a good final delivery but the umpire failed to spot a front foot no-ball. Replay clearly showed that Malinga overstepped, which was not given a no-ball.
Mumbai won the game in the end by six runs. Virat Kohli and RCB fans were not happy with the result and rightly so.
