Twitter Q&A with Shane Warne: Favourite Players, Football Team, Songs
Shane Warne entertained questions from fans for about an hour on Sunday, providing answers to different kinds of queries thrown at him. The session, which had to be initiated with the ‘ask shane’ hashtag, specified that no topics were off limits.
Warne is currently in Melbourne, waiting for Christmas with his family and friends.
Asked to pick his footballing favourites, he did not go for either Messi or Ronaldo, but said that he was a follower of English football and that he has been a fan of Chelsea since 1989.
From the three Test matches he picked as his favourite matches, two were from 1992, his earliest days in cricket. The other was the Adelaide Ashes Test in 2006. The most difficult oppositions he faced, as he admitted, were the ‘94 South African team and the 2005 English team.
He picked Merv Hughes as the craziest teammate to be going out nights with. He also said that he wanted to be coach of a national team, but that ambition would wait until his children had all finished with school.
Asked to pick his favourite ground in India, he picked the Wankhede in Mumbai, but added that Rajasthan’s IPL ground would come a close second.
He picked Allan Border, Mark Taylor and Stephen Fleming as the three best captains he had seen. He also named Glenn Mcgrath, Mark Waugh and Merv Hughes as players he loved to watch and learn from.
But in what will please Indian fans most, Warne predicted that the World T20 in February, to be played in India, will be won by the hosts.
Asked to pick songs which always stayed with him, Warne picked three classics – Time of my life, Thunder Road and The Scientist.
