Twitter reacts as Dale Steyn surpasses Shaun Pollock to become SA's leading wicket-taker in Tests
South African speedster Dale Steyn has broken Shaun Pollock's record of 421 Test wickets and has now become the highest wicket-taker for his country in Test matches. Steyn achieved this feat by picking up the wicket of Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman in the ongoing Boxing Day Test match between South Africa and Pakistan.
Heading into this Test series, Steyn also had 421 wickets to his name and needed just one more dismissal to break Pollock's record. Steyn's fans did not have to wait much as on the first ball of the 7th over of the series' 1st innings, he picked up his 422nd test wicket by sending Zaman back to the pavilion, with Dean Elgar taking the catch to dismiss him.
Dale Steyn had made his Test debut way back in 2004 and has been one of the integral parts of the Proteas pace attack since then. The Phalaborwa native has played 89 Test matches for his nation and was hailed by many critics as the next big thing in South African cricket. Clearly, the pacer did not disappoint them as he has 26 five wicket hauls and 5 ten wicket hauls in his 14-year long Test career.
Though his career has been marred by injuries of late, Steyn has managed to return to the national team and is once again providing the best of his services to South Africa. A lot of cricket fans were waiting for Steyn to break this record and the same was visible on the micro-blogging site, Twitter which went berserk when the South African speedster took his 422nd test wicket.
