Two Indian-origin cricketers suspended by Cricket South Africa
Cricket South Africa have taken a decision to suspend two of their three Indian-origin players in their women’s team, namely Shabnim Ismail and Trisha Chetty for repetition of offences which breach their Rules and Code of Conduct.
While Shabnim is a right arm fast-medium bowler, Trisha is a right-hand batsman and a wicket-keeper.
Both the players have been suspended till January 31st, 2017 for breaching Article 1.5.2 of the Code, namely “unbecoming or detrimental conduct which could bring them, the Board or the game of cricket into disrepute”.
The duo has admitted to breaching the Code and will not be seen in national colours before the aforementioned date. But they can, however, turn up for their provincial sides during this period.
Although the board has not disclosed the nature of offences the players had committed, sources close to the Indian Express had revealed that they have been at loggerheads for some time now.

“We strive to be a highly professional and world-class outfit, whether on or off the field. Incidents of this nature are always disappointing and cannot be tolerated in a high performing environment,” said CSA Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat in a short statement.
“We have agreed with Shabnim and Trisha that they will undertake specialised counselling during their period of suspension and together with South African Cricketers Union, we will try to ensure that they successfully re-integrate themselves back into the team environment,” it said.
The statement also added that there would be no further comment on this matter as CSA respects the confidential nature of it.
For the record, both players are excellent performers for the national team. Shabnim has been quite a revelation in the shorter formats of the game so far. She has 88 wickets from 59 ODIs so far and also 58 T20 wickets from the same number of games.

She is also the leading wicket-taker for South Africa. On the other hand, Trisha has enjoyed immense success with the national side too and averages a healthy 32.27 in ODIs and 31.00 in Tests. Her best score of 95 in the One-Dayers came recently against the Ireland women’s team.
Though primarily a top-order batter she has also time and again played as No.6 or 7.
