Two new IPL teams to be announced on Tuesday
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the two new teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL) would be declared on Tuesday after a meeting of the IPL Governing Council (GC).
“The IPL GC will decide on the two new teams that will play in the IPL for the next two years,” BCCI said in a statement on Sunday.
A press conference would follow the meeting which would be presided over by the BCCI President Shashank Manohar. The IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla, BCCI Treasurer Anurag Thakur along with the two owners of the teams would be present.
Two spots were vacated in the eight-team franchise-based T20 league, after the Justice Lodha Committee, constituted by the Honourable Supreme Court of India to probe into the alleged IPL corruption scandal of 2013, suspended the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals franchises for two years.
The BCCI had earlier released an Invitation To Tender (ITT) document for the interested parties willing to buy a franchise from the two that are up on offer. The BCCI’s offer had garnered huge interest, as, over 10 companies including giants such as Videocon, Haldirams and Yes Bank, bought the document.
