Umar Akmal denies allegations of sexual harrasment and violating code of conduct
The latest scandal to have overtaken Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal has seen allegations of sexual harrasment lodged against him by a model named Rachel Khan, who is reported to have slapped Akmal after he misbehaved with her during the ‘Play for Peace’ event in Norway earlier this year.
Akmal, who was a much-vaunted wicketkeeper batsman not so long ago, has been in the news for all wrong reasons in recent times. He lost his place in Pakistan’s T20I squad for the 3-match series against England, following his detention by police after being apprehended at an ‘obscene mujra party’ last week.
He was also issued a showcause notice by the PCB for the allegations to have come up against him, to which he has now replied – by denying all charges and claiming they were fabrications, as reported by Saama.
Saying that he only had food at the mujra, Akmal said in his reply, “I have done no wrong since I fully abide by PCB code of conduct and can’t even think of violating it.”
“Reports about Rachel and Hyderabad events were false and I don’t want to talk on these issues,” Akmal said while talking to media at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, yesterday. He also said that he had been lent support on the matter by none other than Shahid Afridi.
Akmal’s involvement in ‘Play for Peace’
According to Rachel Khan, Akmal had misbehaved with her on the sidelines of the ‘Play for Peace’ event in August while in a drunken state. She also claimed that Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma and actress Mahima Choudhary were witnesses to the incident, and that Akmal had misbehaved with them too.
She said that she had retaliated by slapping Akmal, after which the situation had been brought under control with security whisking the cricketer away from the scene.
It had been reported by Sportskeeda that Akmal had got bowled by a Pakistani-Norwegian female leg spinner during the festival in Norway, one Isma Ahmed, who had been catapulted to internet stardom in the process. It now turns out there was even more disgrace waiting to turn up for Akmal from that fateful event.
