Umar Akmal creates a record of getting dismissed thrice in 24 hours
Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal has created a record which he won’t be very proud of. For the first time in history of cricket a player has been dismissed thrice in 24 hours.
In Monday’s match against England at Sharjah, Akmal played a hasty shot and was caught by Chris Jordan at deep mid-wicket. The 25-year-old cricketer has managed only four runs from nine balls. The Twenty20 match went to a Super Over as both the teams had scored 154 runs from 20 overs.
In the one over eliminator, Akmal was sent to bat but could not do much. This time, it was Jordan who was having a good over. The right-handed batsman tried to play a low full toss, but the ball went on to hit his leg stump. At one point in this match, England was struggling at 86 for the loss of six wickets. However, a 60 run-partnership between James Vince and Woakes in seven overs helped the team to reach a respectable total of 154.
England won this match in Super Overs and thus all the matches of the three-match T20 series.
Failure in Sharjah followed by failure in BPL
After this match Akmal took a flight to Bangladesh to play for his Bangladesh Premiere League team Chittagong Vikings. In this match also, Akmal failed to prove his skill. A delivery from Shakib Al Hasan went past his bat and wicketkeeper Mohammad Mithun appealed as soon as the ball was in his gloves.
The 25-year-old batsman was given out, though this decision has been much debated. He scored one run from eight deliveries in this match against Rangpur Riders. Rangpur Riders won this match by nine wickets and 18 balls remaining.
Earlier in November, Akmal was dropped from Pakistan’s T20 team because of an incident in Hyderabad. It was alleged that the cricketer had misbehaved with a woman at a party. Pakistan Cricket Board had sent him a show cause notice. However, Akmal had denied any such incident.
He had told reporters, “I attended a dinner party after being granted official permission by my team manager. I am not answerable to anyone apart from the department I am playing for. Cricket is my love and I want to represent Pakistan for a long period of time.”
Later he was allowed to join his team for the series against England.
