Umesh Yadav doubtful for 2nd Test

After a convincing win over the English in Ahmedabad, the Indian team is set to suffer a big blow.  Umesh Yadav, who bowled brilliantly in the first test match,  has picked up a lower back injury and is doubtful for the second Test starting Friday.

Yadav picked up four wickets in the first match in Ahemedabad and bowled with a lot of pace and fire. He underwent a scan  and did not turn up for the practice session at the  Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The team management has confirmed the news and had declared him unfit for the second test.

“Umesh is unfit for this Test match. He has a sore back,” Dhoni said on the eve of the match. “We play with two seamers and two spinners, so I don’t think we can take a risk to play him in this match. He is most likely to miss this Test match.”

Bengal paceman Ashok Dinda has been called as a cover for Yadav. Incidentally, Dinda was called up as cover in the first test as well. Ishant Sharma was ruled out of the first Test due to viral fever.

Ishant Sharma is however, fit for selection and will share the new ball with Zaheer Khan if India decides to go in with two seamers.  If he does make it to the side, it will be his first Test since ankle surgery in March.

India are leading the four-match series 1-0 after winning the first Test by nine wickets. The second Test will be played at Wankhede Stadium here.
