Under-19 Test: Sri Lanka ends Day 3 on 245/5, lead India by 64 runs
After having been bowled out for just 212 in the first innings, the Sri Lankan side produced a better batting effort in the second innings, reaching 245/5 on the third day of the second ‘Youth Test’.
Sri Lanka has an overall lead of 64 runs over India with one day left. They would have to bat extremely well on the final day to ensure at least a draw.
After India declared their first innings at 393/8, thanks to stirling century scored by Vijay Zol (128) and half centuries from SS Iyer and Samson, Sri Lanka resumed their innings on 11/0 but left-arm seamer Milind removed opener Bhanuka for just 16. Hashan Damindu and Kavindu Kulasekara then put on 44 runs before Kulasekara offered a return catch to Amir Gani.
Sri Lankan skipper Kusal Mendis played well and the Lankans were on their path to recovery the quick wickets of Mendis (65) and Thilaksha Sumanasiri (4) derailed their progress as they were reduced to 167/5. The unbroken partnership of Samarawickrama and Perera, though managed to take the team to 245/5 at stumps.
