Unsold Azhar Mahmood asks media to not cause an uproar
Pakistan-born cricketer Azhar Mahmood remained unauctioned today in the IPL 2014 player auctions, which has caused some stir among his ardent fans.
Mahmood tweeted, “Surprised with the result at the IPL 4me but not shocked. This is what happens in large auctions, it’s a gamble. All the best to those picked.”
Many fans as well as the media were disappointed with the result, as there was some sense of a political agenda. Mahmood, however, asked everyone to remain calm on his Twitter account, “I urge the media not to make this a political case. This is sport and everything is taken on the chin, we sportsman move to the next job.”
Mahmood, who is a British citizen, played for Punjab in the last edition. He has also represented Surrey, Auckland Aces, Wayamba United, Kings XI Punjab, Sydney Thunder, Barisal Burners, Cape Cobras and Islamabad Leopards in other domestic T20 leagues.
It was quite surprising that he wasn’t picked considering the fact that his base was only 1 crore and the former Pakistani all-rounder has a wealth of experience in the T20 format.
