Vernon Philander replaces Ravichandran Ashwin as No. 1 Test all-rounder
Vernon Philander of South Africa has climbed to the summit of ICC Test all-rounder rankings, after his valiant effort against Australia.
Philander had scored 51 runs not-out in the fourth innings but Australia won the Test by 245 runs. When South Africa lost their last wicket only 4.3 overs before the finish line, and had they made it, it would have been a remarkable achievement for the team.
Philander jumped 2 places in the list courtesy of his half-century as well as the 37 which he had scored in South Africa’s first innings. Philander is now 3 points ahead of Ashwin, who is at 373 points. While Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh, with 364 points completes the top three.
R. Ashwin is the only Indian in the list, while Australia has three entries.
