Video: When Victoria scored 1107 in an innings

In a timeless first-class match in 1926, Victoria posted a mammoth total of 1107 against New South Wales at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Batting second after NSW had scored a modest 221, the Vics got off to a fantastic start with Bill Woodfull and Bill Ponsford, both of whom were Australia regulars, adding 375 for the first wicket. Ponsford went on to score 352, with Victoria ending the day’s play on 573/1.

Jack Ryder came in at number four and went to score a fluent double century. Ryder would play for Australia with distinction, ending with a Test average of over 50 in 20 Tests.

With number 3 Stork Hendry scoring exactly 100, it meant that every member in the top four ended up with 3-digit scores. Some late order contributions from Albert Hartkopf and John Ellis helped the Victorians get past the 1000 mark. New South Wales leg-spinner Arthur Mailey ended with figures of 4/362.

The visitors were bundled out for 230, with Victoria winning the match by an innings and 656 runs.
