Cricket is the biggest sport in the country and the players are literally hero worshipped. If you win you will be treated like a king but if you fail people will start questioning your abilities. This is how cricketers in India are treated. With the gaining popularity of the shorter versions of the game, Test cricket has been in the backseat with T20 gaining the exposure and popularity. T20 is full of entertainment and fun. It gets over within 3 hours and you witness entertainment to your fullest in a short time.
Like T20 cricket popularity of the commercials have also increased considerably in the last 20 years or so. In the past, we have seen many Indian cricketers involved in TV commercials. From the boost ad with Kapil Dev to Reynold’s pen ad very recently, Sachin Tendulkar has been in the forefront of TV commercials too. In the recent days, we have also seen the Indian limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni acting in different TV commercials and is the richest cricketer in terms of endorsements and sponsorships.

#1 MS Dhoni (Pepsi- “Yeh hain youngistaan meri jaan”)
In the advertisement Dhoni is seen speaking in a south Indian accent, delivering really funny dialogues. In the beginning, we can hear the voice of Dhoni saying he is from Jharkhand, but immediately, the South Indian Dhoni comes in the fray and says something really very funny in Tamilian accent.
The quote goes like this, “Iam Ias Dhoni from Chennai, mind it. All you fast bowlers rascala, I have the bat, do you have the ball?”. After the dialogues, Dhoni is seen drinking the Pepsi in a superhero style. The ad ends with “Yeh hain youngistaan meri jaan, Mind it”.
#2 Sachin Tendulkar and Shahrukh Khan (Pepsi- Yeh Dil Maange More)
In the beginning of the ad, Shahrukh Khan is seen searching for Pepsi but is prohibited by the security standing in front of the Indian dressing room gate to get inside. So Shahrukh thinks of a plan to get inside and comes in dressed up like Tendulkar. Imitating Sachin’s quirky voice he asks the security to allow him inside. The security thinks he is Sachin and allows him inside the dressing room.
Shahrukh takes a Pepsi can from the refrigerator keeping his face away from the team members but just then Mohammad Azharuddin comes in and says he needs to get padded up as he is the next man in. So Shahrukh without any option gets padded up and was about to enter the field when he sees the original Sachin Tendulkar standing near the ground. Shahrukh thinks he has got away with his prank and offers Sachin the bat but instead he takes the Pepsi can from Shahrukh and goes away from there smiling.
#3 World Cup team from 2003 ( Pepsi- Yeh Dil Maange More)
Most of the members from the 2003 World Cup is seen enacting in the ad. The commercial begins with India having a practice session near the jungle area of South Africa. Harbhajan gets out playing a loose shot that prompts Ganguly to call for a drinks break.
All the team members expect Harbhajan goes for a drinks break expecting to drink Pepsi but gets bemused after seeing a lion sleeping in front of the Pepsi bottles. Yuvraj urges Ganguly to go as he is the “ Bengal Tiger”. Sourav asks Dravid to accompany him and as the duo was about to take the Pepsi bottles, Harbhajan Singh hits a big shot which comes and hits the lion.
The captain-vice-captain duo runs for their life and somehow manages to escape when they see Harbhajan Singh running from the opposite end asking Sourav “Dada Dada mera chhakka dekha” (Dada did you see my six?) to which Ganguly replies it was a superb shot and asks him to get back the ball which was near the lion.
#-4 Rahul Dravid (Kissan Jam)
Most of the cricket lovers must be aware of the fact that Jammy is Rahul Dravid’s pet name. The commercial begins with Dravid trying to steal jam and gets caught by his mother. To fool his mother, Dravid dressed up as a girl and rang the door bell asking for jam. The next time he came dressed up as a monk and asked his mother for jam. Though he was lucky on two instances, he wasn’t lucky the 3rd time around. As he came prepared as a “Dracula” his false tooth fell off and he got caught.
#5 Virender Sehwag (Pepsi- Change the Game)
In this commercial, Ranbir Kapoor (Bollywood actor) tries to teach Virender Sehwag some funny dance steps. Ranbir scolds Sehwag asking him to concentrate on the dance steps. The steps which Ranbir was teaching Sehwag was the way he hits an uppercut. So when the duo sits together with a bottle of Pepsi after practicing the dance steps, Ranbir urges Sehwag to do the same thing in the World Cup.
