Video: AB de Villiers' amazing run-out of Simon Katich
AB de Villiers destroyed Simon Katich’s coming half-century with a terrific run-out. This was in 2006, South Africa were playing Australia at the St. George Park in Port Elizabeth.
Aussies were 99 for 1 when Katich was on strike with 49 runs in his pocket. On the other end, it was his captain Ricky Ponting, who came in after the loss of Adam Gilchrist’s wicket and was now seemed well set with the left-hand batsman.
Katich just needed 1 run to complete his fifty and there was no hurry at all. He thought he will take a single easily with his soft touch to cover, but brilliant AB didn’t let it happen. He placed the ball softly to mid-off, AB quickly in from extra cover dives, makes a good stop and while he is rolling on the ground, throws the ball and hits the stumps at the non-striker’s end and runs out Katich.
It’s more thrilling to watch it on screen and see how quick AB was that Katich didn’t even have a hint of his speedy collect and throw act.
