Video: How Abhinav Bindra played a role in the resurgence of Rahul Dravid as a cricketer

Rahul Dravid and Abhinav Bindra

One of the things that each one of us has to deal with in life are the ups-and-downs. Some learn from their mistakes and rise again while others wither away. But there are also those who find inspiration from others and use that in a positive way to rekindle their dwindling careers.

2008 is a year in that former India captain Rahul Dravid wouldn't like to remember. The right-hander averaged  30.96 in 15 Tests and was also dropped from the ODI team and it seemed like the end was near for him as far as international cricket was concerned.

But one event changed it all for him and gave the Bengalurean renewed motivation to work on his game and come back much stronger. That event was Abhinav Bindra clinching the Gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle final at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

The 42-year-old revealed the story behind his return to form at a conference and praised the 33-year-old shooter for his hard work and his obsession to attain perfection. He adds that Bindra didn't take any shortcuts to achieve his goals and added that he was fortunate to have had a good team with him who ensured that he was always on his way to attain that perfection.

Bindra’s feat did prove to be inspirational for Dravid as returned to score 747 runs in 6 Tests in 2009 at an average of 83 that included 2 hundreds and 5 half-centuries.

Here’s the video of him talking about that phase of his career.
