Video: Angelo Mathews saves a certain six with a breathtaking effort

The current Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews announced himself on the world stage when he made his T20 international debut in the 2009 T20 World Cup in England. He bowled well and kept the runs in check with an economy of just 6.3 apart from being handy with the bat lower down the order.

But if there was one moment that he will be remembered for, then it's his fielding effort against the West Indies in a group stage match at Nottingham. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a mammoth score of 192 runs on the board.

The West Indies at one stage were needing 59 runs from their last four overs when Ajantha Mendis came onto bowl. Ramnaresh Sarwan hit the ball towards long on and it seemed like it would just go all the way since the Lankan was never in a perfect position to take the catch.

But Mathews redeemed himself, caught the ball and the moment he realised that he might step inside the boundary rope, he threw the ball in the air and crossed the rope. Realising that he was now inside the rope, he jumped again and pushed the ball inside the boundary rope by having both feet on air.

And then he came back inside and threw the ball back to the bowler thus saving three crucial runs for his side.
