Video: Carlos Brathwaite and Umar Akmal attempt the Paul Pogba 'Dab'
After winning the opening T20 on Friday night, Pakistan turned on yet another fine show on Saturday as well, first with the willow in hand and then with the ball, to win the second game by 16 runs and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
The match contained many memorable moments, but two instances stood out for the sheer entertainment value. First, during the Pakistan innings, when in the first ball of the 9th over, skipper Carlos Braithwaite dismissed Baba Azam, caught at the long-on boundary by Kieron Pollard.
It was a much-needed wicket for the visitors, as Azam had played a key role in the Men in Green’s win on Friday night.
However, the dismissal was memorable for what followed after Pollard had pocketed the catch for the celebration of the West Indies captain at the fall, who performed the ‘Dab’, an indication where one stretches his left-hand and covers the eyes with right-hand.
If one thought that they had seen the last of that manner of celebration on the day, they were to be proven wrong as during the West Indies innings, it was the turn of Umar Akmal to give it back.
He tried to show that he could also celebrate in that manner, after claiming the catch of Johnson Charles off the bowling of Imad Wasim.
Both, however, were only trying to emulate the original ‘Dab’, which was seen earlier in the day, when Paul Pogba scored his maiden goal for Manchester United against Leicester City at Old Trafford, celebrating the strike with Jesse Lingard.
As far as who did the ‘Dab’ better in cricket is concerned, there is no doubt that it was the West Indian who won that contest, even though his side did not come out trumps in the overall scheme of things.
Brathwaite supports the Red Devils in the Premier League and has shown his support for them in the past on his Twitter handle.
Here’s the video of both players doing the ‘Dab’:
