Video: Cook being 'very cautious' with Swann's injury
England captain Alastair Cook confirms that bowler Graeme Swann is a doubt for the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy at a news conference on Tuesday (June 18th) as his team train ahead of the match against South Africa at the Oval in London, England.
Alastair Cook, England captain:
“We haven’t trained today yet. We are training this afternoon but it (Swann’s injury) is clearly a concern for us. We haven’t ruled him out totally for this game (against South Africa). We are going to see how he trains today. And see how he pulls up tomorrow. There one thing for certain – he won’t be risked. There is no point in doing that for the fact that we have got a… Treaders (James Treadwell) is an exceptional bowler as well so we are very lucky in that department so we might be very cautious with him.”
“(Hashim Amla) He is a massive player for them. He is a very good player. Obviously we saw that first hand here last year. In the One Day (International) and obviously in the Test as well. He is a danger man for them. He is one of their key players and if we can strike early then – with the two new balls – then it gives that opportunity to do that. And we are going to have to be… Our bowlers are going to have to bowl extremely well in those first 10 overs in the Champions Trophy so far and they are going to have to do that this time against South Africa. He is a fantastic player but as all players are vulnerable early we have got to be – we have to try and strike early and if he gets in it is a danger to us so he is certainly a key man but if we can get him out that does put pressure on other players in their set up.”
