Video: Fastest ODI fifty by Sanath Jayasuriya in 17 balls

Sanath Jayasuriya’s Fastest ODI Fifty – 50 in 17 balls. Jayasuriya went on to slam 76 off 28 balls against Pakistan in Singapore, 1996.

In the final of the Singer Cup, chasing 216 to win, Jayasuriya started in emphatic fashion, but failed to find support from his teammates. His opening partnership with Romesh Kaluwitharana was one of the most one-sided affair in cricket, with the wicket-keeper batsman scoring 0 in the partnership of 70 in 5.1 overs.

When Jayasuriya was the 2nd wicket to fall in the 9th over, Sri Lanka needed 120 runs in more than 41 overs. But Pakistan mounted a spectacular comeback and dismissed the islanders for 172 in the 33rd over, winning the final by 43 runs. Nevertheless, the Matara Blaster’s innings remains one of the most destructive in the history of ODI cricket, a world record which is still intact after 18 years.
