Video: Glenn Maxwell bowls double wicket maiden with Pakistan needing just 2 runs to win
Australia beat Pakistan by 1 run in dramatic circumstances at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
With Pakistan requiring just 2 runs to win from the last over with 2 wickets in hand, Australian captain George Bailey tossed the ball up to Glenn Maxwell. Sohail Tanvir who was batting on 10 from 13 balls couldn’t get bat to ball as he tried to finish the match with a big shot. Following Tanvir’s dismissal from the second delivery of the over, it was up to number 11 batsman Mohammad Irfan to win the game for the hosts.
The tall fast bowler could only play three dots from three deliveries, which brought the equation down to two needed to win from the last ball. Irfan went for a big heave and only managed to get height on the ball without any distance, with the ball landing in James Faulkner’s grateful hands at short cover.
In the process, Australia managed to claim victory from the jaws of defeat and wrap up the series 3-0. On the other hand, for Pakistan, it was just another new low in what are troubled times for the Men in Green, having seen their premier bowler Saeed Ajmal suspended from bowling just recently.
