Video: Glenn Maxwell practicing audacious "behind the back" shot
Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell has carved out a name for himself in the spot of cricket with the number of audacious shots he tends to play in his innings. The advent of T20 cricket has resulted in a number of never-been-seen-before shots being tried out by various cricketers, but no one seems to do it with the consistency of the Australian.
Critics have blasted the Australian all-rounder on many occasions for his antics stating that he tries too much while some see it as a lack of respect to the bowlers. But it is not something that has bothered the player himself.
Maxwell had a productive ODI series in England recently scoring 166 in four innings while also picking up 6 wickets with the ball. He also made the headlines with his outstanding catch at the mid-wicket boundary during the fourth ODI and is now an integral member of the Australian squad in the limited-overs formats.
His brilliant performances have been rewarded with a call-up to the Test team for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh as Australia begin a new era in the format following the retirements of Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Chris Rogers, Shane Watson and Ryan Harris after the 3-2 Ashes series loss recently.
Only time will tell whether Maxwell will be selected in the final XI, but Maxwell is gearing up in his trademark style for the series. We have seen him play the reverse sweeps, switch hits, ramp shots and many more but the latest one Maxwell wants to add to his armour is what can be called “behind the back” shot.
He was trying out the shot which applies to full balls down the leg side. Instead of playing it in the traditional way of a glance or a flick or the modern way of a scoop, Maxwell was seen trying swinging the bat behind the body and trying to hit it to the mid wicket region.
Have a look at Maxwell’s attempt here.
