Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel by nineteen runs in the Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday.

Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel played Guyana Amazon Warriors on Wednesday in the Caribbean Premier League. Trinidad captain Dwayne Bravo won the toss and elected to bowl. They struggled to make inroads in the Warriors top order.

Martin Guptil reached a personal haul of 32, with three 4′s and a 6, before Samuel Badree got him LBW to leave the home side on 74/1. His opening partner Lendl Simmons was caught on the boundary by Davy Jacobs top scoring with 42.

New Zealander James Franklin kept the scoreboard ticking over late in the innings, grabbing three 6′s in his 26. Meanwhile, Guyana captain Ramnaresh Sarwan finished on 21 not out as they posted a total of 155.

Needing 156 for victory Trinidad made a slow start to their innings. Justin Guillen reached 22 runs, before being bowled, while Darren Bravo made 23 before his dismissal. Up stepped 17-year-old Nicolas Pooran who played a fearless innings to haul Trinidad & Tobago back into the match. He smashed six 6′s and a single four, scoring 54 runs from just 24 balls before miss hitting one to Mohammad Hafeez off Veerasammy Permaul.

His departure appeared to extinguish Trinidad & Tobago’s hopes of victory as they needed 32 runs from 14 balls. Irishman Kevin O’Brien hit a six with the next ball, but that was to be the last boundary for Trinidad as they limped to 136/9 for their twenty overs, handing the Warriors the win.
