Video: Brendon McCullum gives player's-eye view of match with GoPro

The charity match between ‘Help for Heroes XI’ and ‘Rest of the World XI’ on Thursday turned out be an exciting affair with the match being decided on the final over of play. Featuring prominent stars like Brian Lara, Matthew Hayden, Virender Sehwag, Damien Martyn and others, it was MS Dhoni who stole the limelight with his brilliant finish that earned his side ‘Help for Heroes XI’ the victory.

Friendly matches hardly end up as exciting as the one we saw a couple of days ago, but we always get to see incidents that we may not get to witness in competitive matches. The audience get access to behind-the-scenes footages, personal interviews with the stars involved and like we saw, the likes of Brendon McCullum and Dhoni batting with the GoPro camera attached to their helmets.

The New Zealand skipper gave the audience the player 's eye view of the proceedings as he and his opening partner Mahela Jayawardene gave their side a quick-fire start. It started all the way from the dressing room with the duo getting ready to head to the middle and carried on as the duo took the opposition bowlers tot he cleaners.

It’s not the first time that cricketers have worn the GoPro while batting. Adam Gilchrist famously sported the camera last year in the match between the MCC and the Rest of World side at Lord’s.

The IPL Season 8 also witnessed on-field umpire’s wearing the GoPro while officiating out in the middle.

The usage in the IPL is the closest we have come to witnessing the GoPro being used in an international match but there’s no denying that the audiences feel very connected to the sport if they get to watch the match from the player’s point of view. Going by the success the experimentation has yielded, we might not have to wait much long for the GoPro to become a regular fixture in competitive international fixtures.
