Video: MS Dhoni on Champions Trophy win: 'This means a lot'

Reaction from India captain MS Dhoni at Edgbaston on Sunday following his team’s five-run win over England in the final of the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

MS Dhoni, India captain:

“Well frankly, to start of I think it’s a bit unfair that the ICC Champions Trophy 50-over format, we had to play a 20-over game to find the winner of a 50-over format. But still, I think they (the ICC) needed the result.”

“Well this means a lot, you know, because we are playing against some of the best sides and also the kind of match that we had won. To beat England in a 130-odd run game is something that’s very difficult.”

“Before going in I said ‘first of all, get rid of the feeling that it’s a 50-over game, you know we are playing a 50-over format. It’s a 20-over game.’ We have seen in the IPL (Indian Premier League and in T20 (Twenty20) formats that 130 runs can be a very difficult target to achieve. Second of all, nobody looks to the left of the pavilion – that’s the side where the rain was coming from – so I said, ‘God is not coming to save us. If you want to win this trophy we’ll have to fight it out. We are the number-one ranked (one-day) side, so let’s make sure that they have to fight for these 130-odd runs and, you know, don’t look for any outside help.”

“We just come and play the tournament, you know I’m not too much worried if there’s a reserve day or not – that’s something that the ICC needs to have a look at. The only thing is that the winner was decided in a 20-over game when it comes to a 50-over format.”
