There are some players who simply own the statistics to such an extent that even before seeing them play, you are captivated by the sheer size of the numbers. Muttiah Muralitharan went on to become the highest wicket-taker in Test history by accumulating 800 Test wickets. But there was a time when Murali and Shane Warne, a great of equal stature, were always in a mix to take a lead over the other. When Warne retired with 708 wickets, he was still ahead of Murali.
