Video: Peter Siddle's late swinger leaves everyone stunned
Peter Siddle made the most out of England's seaming conditions when he bowled an amazing late swinger in the last match of the 2015 Ashes. It was something which we don't see everyday; the abnormal behaviour of the ball just took everyone by surprise.
It was the 90th over of England’s second innings in the final Ashes Test; they had nothing to lose even though Australia were just two wickets away from scripting their consolation victory in the Ashes. All-rounder Moeen Ali was on strike and Siddle was the bowler.
After giving away 4 byes in the first ball, Siddle looked a bit frustrated. He started his run-up for the third delivery, pitched it up, got some late swing and the ball careened over to the first slip area, without any deflection from the bat or any other object.
The movement which Siddle produced was something worth watching again and again. Here’s the short clip of the incident:
A similar incident also occurred on Day 2, when in the third over of his spell, Siddle delivered a ball to Joe Root that pitched on off-stump and swung by such a massive margin that wicketkeeper Peter Neville couldn’t hang on to it, despite diving at full stretch in front of the first slip.
Australia won the fifth Test by an innings and 46 runs, but lost the Ashes 2-3 to the hosts. Siddle was the pick of the bowlers in the Australian side in the final Test where he pocketed 6 wickets in the match and played an important role in the visitors’ victory.
