Video: When Saurashtra players clapped their way to a wicket

Cheteshwar Pujara, who hit a century in the game earlier, was also seen deploying a strange tactic

Saurashtra have found a rather unusual way of bagging wickets during their victorious Ranji Trophy Semi-final match against Assam being played at Vadodara. The technique used by the team involved less of ball doing the talking, neither did they indulge in sledging, but utilised the medium of clapping to price out a wicket.

It might seem unorthodox to most but it did the trick for the men from Saurashtra, much to the amusement of the commentators and the spectators.

The incident took place during Assam’s second innings, wherein Gokul Sharma became the unfortunate victim in the 14th over off the bowling of Saurashtra’s Hardik Rathod, well backed up by his ‘applauding’ teammates, which also included the current member of the Indian Test side, Cheteshwar Pujara.

The incident has sparked out the followers of the game to voice their amusement on social media platforms.

Time and again cricket has been witness to various tactics used by the opposition to get players, especially batsmen off their guard, be it the exchange of “verbal bouts” or getting “too close for an umpire’s comfort,” but this indeed is something unheard of that paid rich dividends for the fielding side.

Such tactics apart from being a worthy source of playing on the player’s mind also get the crowd talking about it, which adds viewership value to the gentleman’s game.

The game has revolutionised in the past decades in terms of batting, bowling and fielding skills, but such acts are a testimony to the game’s evolution in terms of ‘offbeat’ mind game tactics.
