Video: Ravichandran Ashwin expresses concern over the standards of coaching in India
Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed concern over the state of the coaching standards in India, stating that he felt sorry for a lot of Indian athletes and added that there was a system in place in every country around the world.
“I feel sorry for a lot of Indian athletes to be very honest. There is a system in place wherever you go around the world. Every sport, every country has a system in place for that particular sport and they don't have to travel far away places. They just have the trust the people that have been deputed by the government or the sports body.
“Unfortunately, in India, I wouldn’t say it's the common man’s fault, I just think people are not equipped enough to provide the service. It doesn't necessarily have to be cricket. It can be anything. The first question that the parent of a child needs to ask is if the coach or the tutor is qualified enough to be a coach or a tutor.
“If this question is not been raised, then you are basically leaving the future of your child in the hands of someone who has no accountability. Indians don't’ ask for accountability and I think that's a very important factor,” the 29-year-old told the Ringside view.
The Tamil Nadu off-spinner, who is presently on a break from the game will resume services for the national team next month when the Virat Kohli-led Test side travels to the West indies to take part in a four-match Test series, starting mid-July.
