Video: Reaction following controversial day one of the third Test
Reaction following the opening day of the third Ashes Test in Manchester, England on Thursday. The point in contention was of Usman Khawaja‘s dismissal.
Here’s Cricket Australia spokesperson’s take on this controversial incident: “Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said ‘Cricket Australia has sought an explanation from the ICC (International Cricket Council) on the dismissal of Usman Khawaja. In our view the on-field decision and the referred decision using DRS were both incorrect. CA (Cricket Australia) remains a strong supporter of DRS and believes that cricket continues to improve and build confidence in DRS. We understand and accept that from time to time mistakes can be made. However, in this instance on behalf of the player, the team and all cricket fans we feel duty bound to seek further explanation to seek how this decision was arrived at.
“I think basically with the review system we have kind of got a split second to make that decision and whether we want to review or not. Then, no matter what it comes back with we have got to accept the decision. It is only right that we do, we respect the officials to make the right decision and we have just got respect whatever decision comes back and just get on with the game.
“I was up the other end so…even in real time i didn’t think he hit it. I didn’t think he was anywhere near it so, the umpire must have had a different view on it so i thought it was not out and that is why we reviewed it and you know, from what we saw on the replays even the England guys had given up hope of it being out so…yeah, it was disappointing and another question mark I guess.”
