Video: Shahid Afridi's 'Mauka' to taunt India at their semi-final exit in the World Cup

Pakistan’s mercurial all-rounder Shahid Afridi has a frosty relationship with Indian cricket fans, which is to be expected considering the traditional rivalry between the two neighbouring nations, and that’s certainly not going to improve when Indian fans watch this. Appearing on a Pakistani talk show after India’s semi-final exit at the World Cup, Afridi taunted Indian fans by singing the tune of ‘Mauka Mauka’ when asked for his reaction to India’s defeat at the hands of Australia.

Ironically, Pakistan had exited the tournament at an even earlier stage (quarter-finals) to the same opposition, in what was the 35-year-old’s last ODI for Pakistan.

For the benefit of those who are not familiar with Afridi’s ‘Mauka’ reference, Star Sports (official broadcasters of the World Cup) had come up with an interesting ‘Mauka’ advertisement prior to India’s opening World Cup game against Pakistan, indulging in a bit of light-hearted banter about the fact that Pakistan have never beaten India in a World Cup match. Eventually, India once again had the last laugh as they triumphed in the opening encounter by 76 runs. The ad became a rousing success, prompting them to capitalise on it and come up with a series of ‘Mauka’ ads prior to every India game in the World Cup.

Well, considering the amount of heartache Pakistanis generally receive owing to their perpetual lack of success against India in World Cup matches, I suppose it is only fair that Afridi and Pakistan have their own back.
