Video: Vijay Mallya enjoys watching the 2016 IPL final from London

Vijay Mallya is currently wanted by the Indian authorities for loan defaulting

The final of the 2016 edition of the IPL was witnessed by millions of cricket lovers all over the world. However, there was one popular personality who had to watch the match from outside the country.

In what was a surprising development, former Director of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Vijay Mallya was seen watching the fiercely contested clash between Virat Kohli’s troops and Sunrisers Hyderabad from London. The liquor baron’s son Siddarth Mallya released the video on his official Facebook page.

In the video, Siddharth speaks about their Formula One team, Force India sealing third place in the Monaco Grand Prix which also took place on the same day. He enthused, “Time for the final. Very, very exciting. We just had the most amazing result with Perez (Sergio) finishing on the podium in Monaco. It doesn’t get much better than that."

When he turned the camera, his father was spotted waving at it in an enthusiastic manner. The Mallya-scion added, "Here we are, watching together from London. Hopefully, we can add to what has been an epic day of sports so far”.

Just as his son asked him to say something encouraging for the Royal Challengers, Vijay Mallya cheered, “Go RCB.”  Siddarth proceeded to affirm, “There you go. Hopefully, we can be third time lucky.”

However, RCB were defeated in the title clash by David Warner’s side by 8 runs at their home venue. Despite Chris Gayle’s fiery knock, the Royal Challengers were unable to eclipse the mammoth target which made it their third loss in an IPL final.

Vijay Mallya has been living in London after the Indian government issued a warrant for his arrest. The 60-year old fled the country with outstanding debts of Rs 9,000 crore unpaid to a consortium of banks.

While his lawyers have been busy fighting the legal battle, Vijay has rarely made a public appearance in the United Kingdom. He also resigned from his post as the Director of Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL) with Russell Adams taking over the role.
