Video: What happened when Dhoni, Kohli and Ashwin met Kangana Ranaut

In the ad, the Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is portrayed as a die-hard fan of Kangana Ranaut

There was tremendous excitement and anticipation in the air when word got out earlier this month that MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli were shooting an advertisement with Kangana Ranaut. The video is finally out and it is going viral on social media.

Smartphone brand 'Lyf Mobile' released the ad on Youtube featuring Kangana Ranaut and a host of Indian cricket's golden boys like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Stuart Binny and Varun Aaron.

The ad which tries to promote the high picture quality of the smartphone has become popular because of the presence of the star actress along with some of Indian cricket's current demigods. It also features the 'Queen' actress grooving to the beats of the popular track Hungama ho gaya from her film.

In the ad, the Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is portrayed as a die-hard fan of Kangana Ranaut. Dhoni, Kohli and the other cricketers then make an appearance advising Ashwin to switch to Lyf mobile. As soon as the switch is made, Kangana dancing to the tune of the song makes a real appearance before them.

The catch lies in the fact that Kangana was already present but waiting in hiding for her grand entrance. All the other players, playing a shrewd prank on Ashwin, were in on the plan except the off-spinner himself. The moment Ashwin switches to Lyf mobile, Kangana makes her entrance making the transformation appear to be more life-like.

The ad seems to have an objective of marketing the smartphone based on its cutting-edge and life-like picture quality. At the same time, the claim to the magical transformation brought about by the mobile when Kangana arrives in person is undercut by openly presenting it as a prank played on Ashwin by the other cricketers.

The ad thus subverts its own magical claim in a moment of self-deprecatory ease that seems to have made it more popular. Even as Ashwin gazes at the real Kangana in disbelief, the other cricketers who were participants in the prank have a good time at his expense.

Here is a video of the advertisement.

Last week, a photo had surfaced from the shooting of the ad in which the 'Queen' actress was seen striking her famous London Thumakda pose with the cricketers.

A behind-the-scenes video in which Captain Cool trolled Ashwin over his Hindi-speaking skills was also doing the rounds on social media.
