Vijay Zol and Sanju Samson – A double delight!
What an interesting co-incidence! This has been seldom seen in the history of cricket – Two of the prime batsmen of a team scoring exactly 100 runs each – that too playing together! Perhaps these kind of thrilling developments distinctively make cricket entirely different from any other game.
Well, after the recent defeat for Team India in both the ODI and Test series against the mighty South African team, the fans of the game in this cricket mad country had somewhat gone into a sad and depressing mood. But then today, the dashing performance of two upcoming youngsters has lightened the moods. The amazing Indian batting duo – Vijay Zol the captain of India under 19, and his vice captain Sanju Sampon – have displayed their splendid batting skills while playing against the arch rival Pakistan in the finals of coveted junior Asia Cup at Sharjah.
In fact, while scoring 100 valuable runs each, both Vijay Zol and Sanju Samson have shown a great deal of maturity in their game play. They have a tremendous level of understanding between them. It is on account of their excellent chemistry that they were able to build such a wonderful partnership. Their excellent running between the wickets showed that their co ordination was marvelous. They both left the ball well and picked the bad balls to put away.
While Vijay Zol took 120 balls to score 100 runs, Sanju Samson just took 87 balls to complete his 100. So the strike rate for Vijay Zol remained 83.33 whereas in case of Sanju Samson it was excellent – 114.94. In his score of 100,Vijay Zol hit 7 boundaries and 2 sixes. Sanju Samson played even better and hit 8 boundaries and 4 sixes. Another very interesting co-incidence is that not only did both of them lost their wicket on a similar score of 100, but both of them were caught and bowled as well. Yet another coincidence is that they both have turned 19 recently!
Another notable development was that both of them relied on their stroke play and batted in a fairly comfortable manner. Though Vijay Zol was a bit cautious just before reaching his 100, Sanju Samson continued to play his natural stroke play.
Both of these players have a massive role to play for team India in the future. We really hope that they will continue to work hard and cement their place in the senior Indian squad. Their commitment is par excellence.
