Virat Kohli admits speaking to Daniel Vettori about Indian coaching role
Amidst all the brouhaha over the next Indian coach, the name of Daniel Vettori started doing the rounds a few days back. Reports suggested that current Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli recommended Vettori’s name as the next Indian coach. Legendary New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori is currently donning the head coach’s role in the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2016.
One of the most coveted posts in world cricket, the position of the Indian cricket coach has been vacant since the departure of Team Director Ravi Shastri in April and it was reported that Kohli is keen to see his Royal Challengers Bangalore coach Daniel Vettori at the helm.
One of our sources close to the BCCI also said, “We are looking into Vettori as his coaching techniques have been revered by some of the senior national team members. I cannot confirm which members have said this. But, Daniel is being looked into as a potential option.”

However, the Delhi lad recently spoke about the issue, “I don’t see it as a controversy at all. See, all these things do come up when there is a scenario when you have to appoint someone (coach). I don’t know how it has come out now. I have spoken to him a while back.”
The current batting sensation also added, “We have spoken to a few other people as well and everyone knows about it. I can’t say anything more about it because I don’t know how it has come out now,”
The former New Zealand skipper has been the coach of the Bangalore-based franchise for the last two seasons and before that he was also the captain of the RCB side. It was Kohli who replaced Vettori as the RCB skipper in 2013. The Indian batsman is the leading run-getter in the IPL 2016 also gave a sarcastic reply when asked if any Indian names were being discussed, “You guys (the media) tend to know more about it, so I will wait for your verdict on that.”
