Virat Kohli is a dedicated player, says former cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya

Sanath Jayasuriya is currently the chairman of selectors of Sri-Lankan cricket

Former Sri Lankan international Sanath Jayasuriya praised Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli stating that he is a very dedicated player and works hard at the nets before a match, which helps him immensely to develop as a player.

As quoted from Mid-day, Sanath Jayasuriya said, "Virat is a dedicated player. He practices and trains hard before every match. He is always concentrating on his game and that is what you need. He is a very professional cricketer. You have a big chance of performing well when you do all the hard work before the match."

The Delhi-boy led the Indian cricket team to a Test match win in Mohali, thus attaining a 2-0 lead in the on-going series against England. He has been quite impressive with the bat, having scored 965 runs in 10 Tests at an average of 68.92.

Apart from Kohli, the most talked about Indian cricketer is definitely Ravichandran Ashwin, who is having a dream run this season. Dominating equally with the bat and ball, Jayasuriya heaped words of praise on the off-spinner as well.

"As an off-spinner, Ashwin has improved a lot and as a batsman too he is doing well which is good for India. He is bowling well and always wants to come up with new strategies which is working well for him," said the Sri-Lankan.

Sanath Jayasuriya was an instrumental figure in Sri-Lankan batting line-up during his played days and scored more than 13.000 runs in ODIs and also took 323 wickets. He was one of the most destructive openers in the 50-over format and his career spanned almost 22 years.

Currently the chairman of selectors of Sri Lanka, Jayasuriya said that the Sri Lankan national team is going through a rough patch after the retirement of stalwarts like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, but showed character by defeating Australia in the Test series earlier this year: “It is very difficult to replace players like Sangakkara, Jayawardene, and Dilshan. They had experience of 15-16 years.”

Jayasuriya continued, “That was a big task when they appointed me chairman of selectors (in April). I took the risk and we did well against Australia at home and won the Test series 3-0."

India and England face off next in Mumbai on December 8th in the fourth Test match of the series.
