Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri to attend Phillip Hughes' funeral
Australian batsman Phillip Hughes’ funeral, which is scheduled to take place on December 3 at his hometown Macksville, will be attended by India’s stand-in captain Virat Kohli, coach Duncan Fletcher, team director Ravi Shastri and team manager Arshab Ayub. They are expected to be joined by a few other players, most notably the ones who have played alongside Hughes for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians.
Hughes passed away a couple of days after being hit by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield game against South Australia on November 25 at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Cricket Australia (CA) has been appreciative of the way the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cooperated in these difficult circumstances. Besides agreeing to postpone the start of the Test series, originally slated for December 4, the Indian cricket board has also offered to let its players be in contact with their Australian counterparts to help "speed up the healing process".
ESPNcricinfo quoted a BCCI insider as saying, "If some of our boys mingling with the Australian players is going to help them get back on track, we will immediately facilitate it."
