Virat Kohli rises to Number 2 in the Latest ICC Test Rankings; Jonny Bairstow drops down one spot
Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli has once again achieved his best career ranking as far as Test batsmen are concerned, going past England’s Joe Root to go to the Number 2 spot on the list for the Top 10 batsmen.
The 28-year-old right-hander put forth a Man of the Match performance during the Mumbai Test with a career-best score of 235 that laid the platform for a resounding Indian win in the game, helping India take a 3-0 lead in the series.
The knock earned Kohli 53 ranking points and took his tally to 886 and it now leaves him just 11 behind the top-ranked Steven Smith of Australia. Another good outing for the former in the Chennai Test and a low score for the latter in the Brisbane Test against Pakistan starting on Thursday would mean that the Indian could overtake his Australian counterpart and become the numero uno ranked player in the world.
For his 12-wicket haul, R Ashwin gained 13 points and remained firmly on top as far as the bowlers’ rankings are concerned. He also leads the pack as far as the Test all-rounders’ tally is concerned with 483 points to his name.

It has been a sensational rise for Kohli in the table as he has now achieved a new career ranking in the past three weeks on the back of some staggering performances with the bat and he will look to upscale Smith and end the year on a high next week.
