Virat Kohli stands up for Anushka Sharma on social media

Virat Kohli is undoubtedly the most sought after batsman in world cricket. Not only has he proved his heroics for the country on the field, but his antics off the field have also gained him a lot of fan-following.

The 27-year-old right-handed batsman from NCR has constantly been in the limelight during the on-going ICC T20 World Cup 2016 in India. He scored a couple of match-winning knocks against Pakistan and Australia to take India to the semi-final stage of the coveted ICC tournament.

The charismatic Indian batsman was previously in a relationship with the Bollywood actor, Anushka Sharma which had attracted a lot of attention from the Indian media. And yesterday there were a lot of people trolling Anushka on Twitter, attributing Kohli's success to their break-up.

But Kohli put those trolls in their place with an emphatic tweet.

He further elaborated his stance with a brilliantly worded riposte that called out all the critics for their hypocrisy.

Shame on those people who have been having a go at anushka for the longest time and connecting every negative thing to her. Shame on those people calling themselves educated. Shame on blaming and making fun of her when she has no control over what i do with my sport. If anything she has only motivated and given me more positivity. This was long time coming. Shame on these people that hide and take a dig. And i dont need any respect for this post. Have some compassion and respect her. Think of how your sister or girlfriend or wife would feel if someone trolled them and very conveniently rubbished them in public. #nocompassion#nocommonsense

Clearly, Kohli is not just winning the on-field battles; he rules off the field too!
