Virat Kohli, Sunil Gavaskar nominated for Arjuna, Dhyanchand awards
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain and Indian vice-captain Virat Kohli has been nominated by the BCCI for the Arjuna award.
The 23-year-old is the only nominee from the Indian cricket board in this category. Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is BCCI’s choice for the Dhyanchand award.
The news comes in just days after the Wankhede incident, where a certain section of the audience accused Kohli of being a cheater.
Last year the BCCI failed to submit the nominations on time. This year, however, they have submitted the names on time. The last date for receiving nominations for the Arjuna, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Dronacharya and Dhyanchand awards is Tuesday, April 30, 2013.
Kohli won the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year award last year and the Delhi lad has made a case for his nomination this year after some brilliant displays against Australia in the Adelaide Test in January last year. He was also made the vice-captain of the Indian team for the Asia Cup in the 2011-12 season.
Paralympian HN Girisha and India hockey defender Sandeep Singh have been nominated for the Khel Ratna award.
