Virat Kohli - The biggest gem of Indian cricket
The possibilities are unlimited. Being one of the comparatively younger players is an added advantage. His adventurous game is being polished every passing season. He has already established himself as one of the most trustworthy batsmen. Already he has got the captain’s cap in the IPL and he is learning quickly the abilities of a perfect motivator for his team-mates. His style and body language depicts the confidence, aggression and precise decision making abilities necessary for a future leader.
It has already become a talk of the town that he is going to be the next captain of Team India, much earlier than we anticipated. Yes, by now, you must have got the message loud and clear that we are talking about the vibrant Virat Kohli.
Virat – the word literally means mammoth in Hindi. His blasting entry through a memorable captain’s performance in Under 19 World Cup held in Malaysia in 2008 and the fragrance of that victory is still fresh in the minds of millions of fans. That day turned out to be a milestone for Virat Kohli, his family and friends, Indian cricket, and most importantly for the countless ardent fans (like me). He is young, energetic, committed, dedicated player and most of all a born warrior who never gives up come what may.
Well, describing statistics for such an electrifying performer is not at all needed as most of us have already added Virat in our profile of ‘most liked cricketers’. For the record, he is a wonderful batsman who appears in middle order though he has got abilities to open the innings too. Also, if needed, he can be tried as a medium pace bowler. As his splashing batting is good enough to mark a permanent place in the Indian side, thus the need for him to use the bowling skills does not arrive.
Besides a commendable and dependable batsman, he is known to be a wonderful fielder with quick reflexes and normally he never misses any chance of a catch.
Even before attaining the age of 22 years, he had already scored 2 centuries (only Sachin Tendulkar and Suresh Raina could do it previously).
Virat Kohli is 23 and has already got 17 centuries to his credit across ODIs and Tests, followed by 28 half-centuries. Apart from being a very good and stylish batsman, he is equally daring while smashing even the most deadliest of bowlers. He has also shown a tremendously cool temperament needed to leave any tricky delivery. He has got another unmatched quality for developing a rapport with the batsmen at the other end and does not hesitate to give his partner a chance to play and score in the interest of the team.
Also, he is never seen in a hurry to finish his century, but rather waits for the appropriate ball and the moment to get it done. This depicts the level of self-esteem and confidence he carries as he knows for sure that he has got a glorious career ahead and will have countless chances to make a 100 at any given time.
Even in the recently concluded IPL he had a respectable average of 45+. He has got excellent footwork and above all, the stamina due to which it becomes difficult for any bowler to get him out once he is settled. He has shown unparalleled capacity to play long innings when in not so favourable circumstances. That is why he is becoming a hot favourite of Dhoni, BCCI, media and millions of fans. I hope for the very best future for Virat Kohli and Indian cricket.
