Virat Kohli too emotional to be captain of India: Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi has announced that he will retire after the 2015 World Cup

India’s new captain in the Test format, Virat Kohli, might have impressed many with his inspirational style of leadership, but Pakistan ace all-rounder Shahid Afridi is not one of them. Afridi has said that he is a big fan of Kohli’s cricketing acumen, but is not so sure whether the Delhi boy has the required maturity to lead his nation.

Virat Kohli is to lead out the Indian team as a full-time captain for the first time at the SCG on January 6 for the 4th Test in the ongoing Indian tour of Australia. Called to stand in for MS Dhoni for the 1st Test in Adelaide, Kohli had almost led India to a very famous victory.

Dhoni has changed face of Indian cricket: Afridi

A large section of Indian cricket fans are excited about the new direction in which Kohli will lead the team, but Afridi preferred to dwell on the time it will take the new captain to match up to Dhoni’s legacy.

“I felt disappointed to learn about Dhoni’s retirement decision because he is a fighting character and has been a great leader for Indian cricket. He has led many times from the front for them,” Afridi said.

“Dhoni, has led them well in all formats, has changed the face of Indian cricket and took them to the pinnacle of success and his captaincy will be missed by the Indian team,” the veteran of 389 ODIs told a TV channel.

India and Pakistan begin their World Cup campaigns in a match against each other on February 15.
