Virat Kolhi drops to 3rd place in latest ICC ODI batting rankings
Dubai – India's Virat Kohli dropped a place to be positioned third in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) batting rankings for One-Day Internationals (ODI) released on Tuesday as he was overtaken by South African Hashim Amla following the Proteas' 2-0 victory in a three-match series against New Zealand.
AB de Villiers has retained the top spot with 883 points but Amla, with scores of 38 and 119 in the series, closed the gap to 28 points.
Kohli, however, will get a chance to move up the order when he takes the field against Sri Lanka in a five-match series starting Nov 2 as only two points separate the second and third ranked batsmen.
The 25-year-old has been named the skipper of the side against Sri Lanka as regular captain MS Dhoni has been given a rest for the first 3 ODIs. He recently claimed the No.2 spot with a 114-ball 127 against West Indies at Delhi. The series was cut short after the West Indian players left midway due to paymet issue with the board.
Amla scored 169 runs in 3 innings, including a century at Mount Maunganui in the 2nd ODI.
The biggest mover was 33-year-old New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi who has risen 52 places to 62nd after his impressive showing against South Africa. Ronchi scored 79 and 99 in two matches, high scoring for the Kiwis in both innings.
