Virender Sehwag scores sublime century, helps MCC beat Durham

Virender Sehwag bats for MCC

Virender Sehwag showed some of his old self as he scored a century in the fourth innings to guide Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to victory over Durham in the Champion County fixture in Abu Dhabi.

The discarded Indian batsman took just 88 balls to complete his ton, his first first-class hundred since the one he hit against England way back in November 2012. He was finally dismissed for 109, with just 14 runs required to win.

The knock helped MCC chase down 224 – the target set by Durham – with relative ease.

Sehwag, who was the MCC skipper for the match, has been out of form for a long time and this knock will surely help him regain some confidence before the start of the Indian Premier League scheduled for next month.

The aggressive batsman from Delhi, also found time to tweet a selfie (shown below) with his teammates during the lunch break and looked calm despite being in the 90s during the interval.

Sehwag will be hoping that the Indian selectors have taken notice of the knock as he looks to get back into the national fold as soon as possible, with age not being on his side and the 50-over World Cup less than 12 months away.
