Wahab Riaz and Shakib Al Hasan fined for breaching ICC code of conduct
Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan were both fined by the ICC for breaching the code of conduct post the first Test match between Bangladesh and Pakistan. They were both fined 30% each after getting themselves involved in a heated altercation during Bangladesh’s second innings.
The duo breached Article 2.1.8 (a) of the code, which relates to "conduct contrary to the spirit of the game." This incident happened in the 118th over of the second innings during which they pointed fingers at each other.
"Posturing and finger pointing in each other's face is not what we expect from two senior international players and has no place in cricket," Match referee Jeff Crowe said. "International cricketers should always remember that they are being watched and followed by millions and, therefore, need to always control their emotions and demonstrate respect."
The match ended in a draw after the Bangladeshi openers put on a record 312 run partnership which eventually became the highest opening stand for the 1st wicket during the second innings of a Test.
