Waqar Younis names Sachin Tendulkar as the best batsman he has bowled to
What's the story?
Former Pakistan cricket team pacer Waqar Younis heaped praise on Sachin Tendulkar by naming him as the best batsman he has ever bowled to.
Speaking to PTI, Waqar felt that Sachin was the most committed player he has seen.
“I played a lot against Tendulkar and he made his debut against us. Over the years I saw him become a thorough professional and I have not seen such a committed player. He was the best batsman I bowled to and it used to be a challenge.”
In case you didn't know...
Both, Waqar and Sachin, made their debut in the same match back in 1989 in Karachi when India and Pakistan took on each other.
They both were instrumental in their side's success in the 1990s and 2000s and went on to become great rivals. However, they always shared a great camaraderie off the field which was quite commendable.
The details
The two have played a lot of cricket against each other and while Waqar dismissed Sachin on a number of occasions, Sachin has gotten the better of Waqar quite a few times as well.
The former Pakistan cricket head coach, who resigned from the job last year, also had a lot to say about current Indian captain Virat Kohli, who has been breaking records for fun off-late.
He feels that Kohli is destined to break all batting records in the years to come because of the way he is maintaining his fitness and the way he enjoys his game and focusses on his skill level.
Author's take:
It is great to see a Pakistan legend heap praise on Sachin Tendulkar, a man who has tormented Pakistan's bowling attack on a number of occasions.
A lot of people would agree with Waqar has to say given the difficulty bowlers have had in dismissing Sachin during his playing days.
