Warner disciplinary hearing on Thursday

A disciplinary hearing into David Warner’s altercation with England batsman Joe Root — that reports say could see him sent home — will be held late Thursday, Cricket Australia said.

The governing body announced it would take place via teleconference at 0830 GMT, conducted by CA Commissioner Gordon Lewis.

CA said the explosive opening batsman had been reported for breaching its code of conduct relating to “unbecoming behaviour” after a “physical altercation” with an England player on Sunday, widely identified as Root.

Warner was dropped from title-holders Australia’s rain-marred no result Champions Trophy match against New Zealand in Birmingham on Wednesday but carried drinks onto the field at Edgbaston as 12th man.

It will be his second disciplinary hearing in three weeks after he was found guilty last month of breaching the code of conduct for an expletive-laden Twitter tirade at two Australian cricket journalists.

It followed a story about corruption and fixing in the Indian Premier League which was illustrated with a picture of him. Warner was fined Aus$5,750 ($5,400).
