[Watch] Arshdeep Singh dismisses Aiden Markram after back-to-back boundaries in IND vs SA 1st T20I

India pacer Arshdeep Singh struck early as he dismissed South Africa captain Aiden Markram in the first T20I at Kingsmead in Durban on Friday, November 8. The left-arm pacer fought back after Markram slammed back-to-back boundaries off Arshdeep in the first over of the Proteas’ run chase.

Arshdeep bowled a fuller length ball that held its line. Markram tried to play it towards mid-wicket but closed the face of the bat early offering a faint edge as Sanju Samson completed a regulation catch behind the stumps. Markram departed for eight runs off four balls.

As a result, Aiden Markram continued his flop show with the bat in T20Is this year. He has managed just 209 runs in 15 innings this year. On the other hand, Arshdeep Singh maintained his knack of picking up wickets with the new ball.

Sanju Samson’s ton helps India set a 203-run target vs Aiden Markram and Co.

Sanju Samson’s century helped India post 202/8 against Aiden Markram’s South Africa in the first T20I. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 107 runs off 50 balls, a knock laced with 10 sixes and seven boundaries. This was Samson’s second consecutive century, having smashed 111 versus Bangladesh in Hyderabad.

Apart from Samson, Tilak Varma and skipper Suryakumar Yadav also chipped in with 33 (18) and 21 (17), respectively.

Gerald Coetzee starred with the ball for the Proteas, picking up three wickets. Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Patrick Kruger and Nqabayomzi Peter chipped in with one wicket apiece.

At the time of writing, the Proteas were 28/1 after three overs, with Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs at the crease.

Aiden Markram and Co. would be looking to avenge their defeat in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav-led side are coming of the back of back-to-back of 3-0 series wins against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The Men in Blue are yet to lose a match after Yadav became full-time T20I captain.
